Methodology & Data Lineage
Average classroom teacher salary figures are published directly by the Michigan Department of Education (Bulletin 1014: Table 7), calculated as total classroom instructional salaries divided by reported classroom teacher FTEs. Regional medians reflect the median average teacher salary among traditional districts within each Intermediate School District (ISD).
Micro-District Staffing Sample Variance: In very small districts with 3 or fewer reported teacher FTEs (e.g. single-building primary township districts), per-FTE mathematical averages can exhibit extreme variance due to small denominators, shared administrative/teaching duties, or non-recurring severance and retirement adjustments.
